So, on Saturday, Topshop opened it’s illustrious, magical doors on Auckland’s North Shore. And has now apparently closed them again. Due to selling out of all it’s stock. Woah. I get the feeling Supre may have a bit of tidy competition on it’s hands in the where-to-shop-in-Takapuna stakes.

Yes, admittedly I’m a little late in releasing this news, but I apologise for being bed-ridden and not actually being able to scream my way through Topshop’s shiny doors myself. I think I’m a bit more upset about that than you are.

Anyway, Topshop is promising to reopen, just as soon as it has it’s shelves filled back up, for us to run around and ingest with gay abandon. Ahhhh, bliss. I won’t be missing out next time, that’s for sure.

So I just read this article (thank you fashion monitor for keeping me on the button) about an ad for plus-size lingerie Lane Bryant, starring plus-size model Ashley Graham which has been deemed ‘too raunchy’ by American TV network ABC. It has turned into an issue of ‘discrimination’ against plus-size models, I don’t know what I read into that, but after watching the ad I do not think it is too raunchy. I think it’s a bit wierd. It talks about ‘Mom’ and what ‘Mom’ says, and that this lingerie would never be worn by, ‘Mom’. To me it’s a wierd ad, that should’ve been played, as it shows viewers what a real woman looks like, instead of these 12-year-old-boys-in-bras-pretending-to-be-25-year-old-women-models, which we see near-naked in every other form of advertising.

Side note: I know every woman is real but I use the term ‘real’ loosely, and in the way that it is often used when discussing women of different sizes.

So I found out this morning via Twitter (thank you @barepr) that today is Earth Day. This definitely seems like something I should (and would) know about, where have I been the last few days? I have obviously been buried under a massive pile of work, unable to make contact with civilization to find out these very important goings-on.

But happily, I switched on my computer this morning to MAKE CONTACT with people, and the first thing I found out was that it is Earth Day. On a side note, does this not seem a tad ironic after the recent volcanic eruptions in Iceland? To me, those were a very clear message from Mother Nature to stop abusing the earth in the way that we do, not in her usual way that  a natural disaster affects us (i.e. killing people) but in a much more close-to-home, actually-effect-those-of-us-who-aren’t-in-the-direct-vicinity-of-the-disaster, by stopping all air travel. This hugely effected a LOT of people, even here in far-away NZ, who had trips planned overseas. I think we should listen to the earth a bit more carefully.

Anyway, on a different organic and earth friendly tangent, I also received in my inbox this morning a sweet little organic eye cream from Sukin, which happily (and surprisingly, these things – not necessarily from Sukin – are generally much more pricey) is only $21.99! That is cheap cheap! Especially for an eye cream.

So when thinking about what to use on your skin (remember, your skin absorbs everything, so you don’t want to use anything that is loaded with chemicals) think about the effect on the earth. The recent events around the world are trying to tell us something, and I think we need to listen very carefully. The way products are made are also important to find out, as companies often leave a heavy carbon footprint. But I think in Sukin we can trust.

So my plea for today, is enjoy Earth Day – but why does it have to be only one day? To me, Earth Day is everyday.

Sometimes Guess has  a way of being a tad ‘not quite right,’ but when these bags landed in my inbox I was instantly attracted to them. I think it’s the brightness of them that I am in love with; who wouldn’t want to take one of these little guys shopping? Aptly named the Shopper, I can even get past the fact that they’re shiny. In fact I think I like them a little bit more because of that. I’d love to sashay down the supermarket aisles with a Shopper on my arm. Yes please.

So I just read this article, which is saying that the latest trend in the fashionable Harajuku district of Tokyo, Japan is… wait for it…. Men in SKIRTS! And not only skirts, but they’re pulling out that old rage which I personally would like to stay tucked far, far in the back of everybody’s wardrobe – skirts over pants! Say it isn’t so!

From the sounds of it reputable designers such as Japanese label Comme des Garcons and Britain’s Vivenne Westwood saw this coming, perhaps even started it.

I have two questions.

First: Why???

So this week, I am totally mixing it up. New hair, new look – I think. And as I am always harping on about the benefits of purple eye makeup combined with brown eyes, I thought I’d just show it to you! Normally I don’t wear such intense make up during the day, but while I have this fringe I feel like I need to give my eyes an extra pop, so extra eye liner is key.

Okay. So a few weeks ago I thought it would be a BRILLIANT idea to start a NEW blog. And continue with this one. My new blog was to combine my passion for beauty (which you all know about) and my passion for food (which you may not know yet). In my head, the idea was great. Oh, did I mention at the same time I launched a company with my sister, which sees me sitting on the couch sewing handmade purses for hours at a time? Right. As you may imagine, this amount of ‘things to keep alive’ is too many.

So, I have found the solution. I’m combining my new blog, with my already amazing and wonderful website! From now on, RCG will have an awesome section titled ‘Beauty Food/Food Beauty’ – here you can read about my adventures in the kitchen, and of course get some amazing beauty advice and tips at the same time!

Oh Celine Rita, you make me swoon with each new range that you bring out. Celine Rita launched her Winter ‘10 range, So Dream, last Friday at the Floating Pavilion in Auckland. Among her other beautiful, feminine and quirky designs was this a-maaaaazing blazer, which I am TOTALLY in love with and must own.
