Shoulder pads, big hair, big prints and bold colours. Doesn’t that sound exciting? The NZ Herald is reporting that this year’s Fashion Week designers are bringing back the 80’s – or to some of us, it is more a first time around rather than a revival. Our parents may cringe at the thought of wearing shoulder pads again, but to us young things it is a new trend, which we will embrace with enthusiasm!
I think though, that like many other decade revivals, we will wear them with a noughties twist – cleaner, crisper, bold without being brash. Cybele and Sera Lilly are both embracing the 80’s revival by creating looks incorporating nudes and bright, bold colours, as well as a little bit of what looks like gothic-glam. When I imagine a Sera Lilly nude-and-bright-print-slash-goth-glam combo I think less Days of our Lives, more Gossip Girl-gone-a-bit-wild.
I think I am going to whole-heartedly embrace this 80’s revival – what about you?
