So I have decided to become an expert in organic beauty products. I need a niche, a field of expertise – and this shall be it. Everybody knows about Dr. Hauschka, which is a holistic skin care range, certified as 100% Natural by the BDIH (a federal association of German manufacturers of drugs, supplements, cosmetics and personal care products). All Dr. Hauschka products promise to conform to the following standards:

*Organic and Biodynamic plant ingredients
*Exclusively non toxic processing methods
*No animal testing
*Socially responsible business practices

Dr. Hauschka also advocates some interesting statements. You can read their ‘7 facts that will change your skin’ here, and see if you agree or disagree. As a trained beauty therapist, I just can’t get my head around their first fact. That using night cream is not beneficial for your skin. I understand their reasoning – but still, if I went to bed without applying a cream or oil of some kind, I would feel I was depriving my skin of essential moisture.

Well – I’ll do my research, and keep you up to date here.

And what about cheaper alternatives that call themselves ‘natural’? Are they just as good as the famed Dr. Hauschka? Brands like Skin Food and Pacifica Skin Care.

Skin Food claims to be ‘100% paraben free and [use] no artificial colours’ and Pacifica Skin Care says they ‘care about what goes into our products, which is why we use pure New Zealand manuka honey, certified organic flax seed oil, sweet almond oil, and natural New Zealand botanical extracts. We are also careful to reduce in anyway possible our impact on our environment – ensuring that we protect this beautiful country.’ – I like the sound of them both, but how effective are they in reducing the signs of ageing such as pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles etc?

They are more friendly on your wallet, so if they produce the same results as more expensive brands we should definitely support these local businesses and invest in some of their skincare. It is definitely important to limit the amount of chemicals we put in our bodies, and by putting chemicals on our skin we absorb them quickly – so a natural alternative is definitely a wise choice.

I have contacted both companies to ask if I can feature them and conduct research on their products – watch this space for updates.
